Dr. Puttaiah has developed all his training materials, some of which are being used by other trainers within the United States and Worldwide. In 2008 he crafted the Dental Safety Standards for India which was released by Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Honorable Prime Minister of India. He has helped the Russian Federation formulate a pathway for Dental Safety Standards. He has conducted over 130 research projects funded by NIH/NIDCR SBIR Grants and Dental Industries worldwide. He has presented over 130 original research abstracts, provided over 200 programs in Dental Safety at national and international dental conferences, published 7 book chapters and 33 peer reviewed original research and review papers.
He as published over 30 regular columns on Dental Infection Control and Safety. For over 30 years, he served as an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of the American Dental Association, Journal of Dental Education among many other high impact journals. He serves as the Editor-At-Large for the Journal of Contemporary Dental Practice, The World Journal of Dentistry, and the International Journal of Oral Health. He served as a grant reviewer for Health Research and Services Administration (HRSA), and the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute PCORI), an independent nonprofit, nongovernmental organization in Washington, DC, authorized by Congress in 2010. He has served as a scientific resource and as a member in Sterilization and Disinfection technical advisory groups of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) that provides preliminary scientific information to agencies such as the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on medical device use in the United States. He has consistently served on the American Dental Association’s Technical Advisory Groups (TAG) on dental devices for many years.
Dr. Puttaiah has served as a scientific and R&D consultant for over 30 industries. Dr. Puttaiah has been an invited/keynote speaker on dental infection control and safety in the United States, India, Mexico, United Kingdom, Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Russia, Italy, Jamaica, China and the Middle East. He has developed comprehensive and practical programs on Dental Infection Control, OSHA and HIPAA for dental offices. Lastly, he is a Fellow and Scientific Director for International College of Dentists (ICD) for the Dental Safety Program (DSP) and has provided Infection Control & Antimicrobial Stewardship Training to ICD Fellows worldwide. He is also an adjunct professor at Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences in India. His role in this effort is in providing meaningful and applications-based training programs in Infection Control, OSHA & HIPAA for the Dental Team. At ToothCe LLC, he served as the Founding Partner/President. His role is in developing evidence-based educational materials and programs in Dental Safety.
